End of the Semester

Now that finals are starting and we are all preparing for the holiday season. I began to think about all that this semester has taught me. When I first took the Digital Marketing Class I  had no idea what to expect. I began to learn quickly that this is a concept that companies are looking to invest in. They want to invest thousands upon thousands of dollars in order to make their company the most marketable. I have learned that its a harder concept than it looks and that I still have much to learn about the topic. However, I did pass my AdWords Certification exam and am now a certified AdWords user which is awesome. It is incredible to me that in a semester we were able to learn so many great things about the way companies market to us. We are ever growing and changing and to find a niche in that market is tough. I learned that by participating in our semester project. You have to constantly keep updating your accounts and keeping informed. I know why companies shell out the big bucks to have teams make all of this possible. It’s truly a challenge when you are doing it on your own.

Furthermore, I want to encourage each and everyone of my readers to take this class at the University of Michigan Dearborn. Even if you don’t think you will go into the field, take the class and get certified. This Digital Marketing journey I have been on has greatly helped me to see another aspect of the business world. You have to be a versatile person to choose business as a career path. It really determines whether or not you can relate to material outside of your field of study. Take this class and see the benefits it can give you.

Digital Marketing Certification Exam

This past week I have been avidly preparing for the Adwords Certification Exam. This past semester has taught me a lot about the University of Michigan Dearborn’s Digital Marketing Program. I have learned about onsite and offsite SEO tactics, while maintaining this blog that added to the learning process. I highly recommend taking this class because it really shows you another aspect of marketing that was new to me. I cannot believe how much money companies spend on this concept. They are willing to shell out big bucks to pay for students that graduate with this degree. We had a guest speaker this week in class and she told us just how much this class impacted her life. I was blown away by the people she met and how passing this exam really helped her to get a job well after she was done with the course. Passing this exam can open so many doors for you. I highly recommend taking it. 🙂

Digital Marketing in a growing world

We are so often consumed by the virtual world that we lose track of the real world. Every social media site you venture to blasts you with advertisements and suggested pages. Most times you blow them off but sometimes you like the page and follow the link on facebook. I am a prime example of that, I will admit I am a buzz feed junky and they hooked me with their catchy stories. As a college student I am always on the go and constantly on my phone. Mobile apps are huge advertisement pieces that you have on the go. I’m always checking my e-mail or watching videos on my phone. All of us are busy and marketers know this. So their job is to hook you onto their product. Whether it be an app or the latest social networking site. Take for example the Instagram couple. They met fell in love on Instagram and are now planning there wedding. Twenty years ago that would have been unheard of but now it’s the norm. We live in a truly timeless era, where every second there’s a new tweet or status update.

And it has slowly become an advertisement haven for all the marketing gurus and who can blame them. It’s fast, it’s easy and it’s cheap. Sounds like the American Way. More money is being spent on Digital Marketing than you would believe. Colleges are scrambling to get degree programs up and running. I am a student at the University of Michigan Dearborn and we feature great course programs that help us further our Digital Marketing experience. We truly experience the Michigan difference. 🙂

China’s Digital Marketing Efforts

Digital Marketing is hitting big developments in China. They have been able to expand their market by investing in new social media platforms. China has come up with an equivalent to Twitter called Weibo. It’s run by government officials, and in a recent severe  earthquake they used this technology to find survivors. Then proceeded to document their efforts for reconstruction of the affected areas. The Chinese government has always been protective of the media that their country sees. However, they are allowed a wider range of internet access and the government app Weibo has created a huge phenomenon. The Chinese government has created a profile on this site and within two hours they had more than 100,000 followers. Their hope is to communicate more effectively with the public sector.

Weibo is interesting because it has various channels that can link you to other social media sites.  So you can not only look at your Weibo but at your Facebook as well. These trends help to create a more diverse environment for Chinese citizens. We as Americans often take advantage of all the social media we have. However, in the future we may see China beating us in the platforms they create.

Digital Marketing in the Global Community

Marketing is a key piece for any major corporation. Without marketing, your company basically doesn’t exist to the outside world. At the University of Michigan Dearborn, we have classes specifically designed to help you. SEO optimization is just one of the key things we strive to achieve in this class. We have been competing in a blog based around digital marketing. This course has taught me that Digital Marketing is all around us. Any social media organization, that we know of markets to us in some way. They create a good place for advertisements because everyone is on Facebook, Twitter, etc. They strive to create a positive environment for advertisers.

We are more connected in a global way much more than we have ever been before. Connecting ourselves to the outside world is a way that we can see advertisers and learn more about our products. Everything they do creates a global market, that centers around how consumers view them. As a whole we see advertisements in all different lights. They appear in different ways, big, tall, small, unique and genre specific. Companies use these tactics to draw  us in. No matter what your interests are you will be affected by digital marketing in some way.

Marketing is often gender specific. They target women, for cosmetics and weight loss supplements. They try to sell men the newest cologne, watch or alcohol. It’s used even more often now because we all are looking for ways to find the products we want online. We are working towards a global community. Internet sales creep up significantly every year around holiday time. People like the convenience of going online and finding the service or product they want immediately. Digital marketing helps with that. It creates the environment in which companies use and consumers want.

When you begin college you are filled with emotions, some happy some sad. You remember what it was like Senior Year and you wish you could go back. Or you wish to start new relationships and join new organizations. My freshman year of college I had no idea what to expect. What I found was that the University of Michigan Dearborn had so many different degrees to offer. One of the degrees that set them apart was Digital Marketing. This degree isn’t well known but it is becoming well known at business schools across the country. Companies are seeking out individuals that not only have this degree but those that have had experience with it as well. They are paying out salaries beginning at $78,000 and you can earn as much as $130,000. Internships at major corporations such as Yazaki, Denso, Ford etc.  These companies are willing to shell out the big bucks in order to have the most qualified individual for the job.
